We are BrookeSmith & Co

Hi my name is Andy I am the owner and founder of BrookeSmith & co. I have over 23 years experience in the painting and decorating industry. I left school at 16 in the mid 90’s, at that time there was a government recruitment drive to get more apprentices into the construction industry, this suited me as I was not academically minded so I took the opportunity and served a 3 year apprenticeship with one of the biggest painting and decorating firms in Liverpool. I gained a city and guilds NVQ level 2 and NVQ level 3 in painting and decorating.

The company I served my time with exposed me to all three sectors in the industry, residential, commercial and industrial. My experiences were that diverse I could go from working in a hospital one week to an industrial plant the next. In 2003 I became self employed and started working at a national level to gain more experience and widen my skill set, I lived and worked in Ireland working on big commercial projects to living and working in London on five star hotels on Regent Street. From there I established BrookeSmith & co in the autumn of 2014.

With a small workforce of professional painters and decorators we expanded quickly due to the increasing workload and nature of our business and we have gone from strength to strength. I was recently at a Business Forum and Training Event I was talking to other professionals from the
construction industry and one of them made a remark that ‘Anybody can paint’ and ‘Painting is easy…’

This a common misconception that I have come across a lot of the time, well for a start if it was easy and everybody could do it I would be out of a job and I wouldn’t have a thriving business. The fact of the matter is painting and decorating looks very easy and doable on the surface. But that is not where the magic happens there is a structure to it and a process, there are lots of parts to it and lots of things to consider before you apply a coat of paint. For example to ensure a long lasting and professional finish the coating needs to adhere to a clean, consistent, stable surface and you only get that from painstaking preparation and attention to detail.

I am all for people doing DIY and having a go themselves so in the next few months we will be posting blogs with helpful tips and information with regards to creating a quality finish to any given area. So watch this space……. we are a friendly, approachable company so don’t be afraid to get in touch.
